Last night was Eurovision final night, this year hosted in Düsseldorf, Germany. Despite bitching about the contest earlier in the evening, I found myself somewhat glued to the tv nonetheless (maybe something to do with Lena, the German entry…. more on her in a moment!).
We all know the Eurovision Song Contest is a bit of a joke. Friendly countries vote for each other regardless of the quality of the song – always have done, and always will. Once you get over that, and just enjoy the cheesy entertainment value of the contest, you might find it as enjoyable to watch as I do…. just maybe.
To be completely honest, I don’t watch it in the hope that we win in because I simply don’t give a s**t. It’s all about the cheesefest (not officially a word, but you get what I mean I’m sure) for me. The crap songs make me laugh rather than make me angry. For anyone that saw the show last night, please explain how Greece got so many votes after that god awful song?! Ok, maybe I do get slightly angry…
Seeing some Moldavians with what looked like huge traffic cones on their heads, whilst belting out their tune was pure Eurovision craziness at its very best.
For those of you interested, the United Kingdom done remarkably better than last year by finishing in 11th position, though if you want my honest opinion, I’m surprised after Blue put on a typically sh*t performance. The song was crap, and the performance was crap….. simples!
Just for added embarrassment for Blue, the Irish entry from (yes, you guessed it) Jedward finished 19 points and 3 places ahead in 8th.
The biggest surprise of the night for me was that Lena, of Germany, only managed 10th place after performing what I consider to be an outstanding, modern and funky song (I’m no Simon Cowell I hasten to add!). In fact I loved the song so much I actually paid money for it on iTunes.
Now, my girlfriend says I only like it as Lena just so happens to be incredibly hot…. and I mean incredibly hot. That fact combined with a rather sexy and seductive performance was enough to win over many male fans across Europe I’m sure. I do not deny that I possibly fell in love with her last night (Lena, if you happen to read this, I’m joking – do not have me arrested for harassment. Incidentally, if you wanna hook up, my number is 07……!), it still does not change the fact the song was brilliant.
Here is a video of Lena’s song ‘Taken By a Stranger’. In true Keith Lemon spirit, to all men out there, go get a box of tissue, sit back, and press play! Sorry.. did I take it a step too far? To hear more of her music click here (opens iTunes)
For those that are not aware, Azerbaijan won the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 and for anyone that cares, here is the winning song;

Burning Question: How Did John and Edward Get To Live X Factor Finals?
Well, we now have our final 12 contestants for the X Factor finals – and whereas I’m mostly in agreement with the judges choices, I am desperate to know what Louis Walsh has seen in John and Edward (AKA John & Edward!!!) that NOBODY else has?
Answers on a postcard please – or alternatively, and probably the better option, post them in the comments section below!
Now, I’ve never been a fan of Louis Walsh. He’s not funny, and not cool. But, he has made money and had huge success with Westlife and Boyzone so guess I shouldn’t be so judgmental, right? Ok, I will…
What the hell is he doing putting through the two most cocky, arrogant, and damn right annoying people I have ever seen appear on the X Factor. I am already praying – despite the fact I am not religious in the slightest – that the idiots are booted out next week. I’m sure that deep down they are nice guys – actually, I’m not certain of that at all. What I mean, though, is that they could be out killing people or something, but they’re not.
What is even more frustrating, is that not only are they annoying, but also not very good at singing – and look ridiculous too. Or, maybe I’m just getting a little old? I’m approaching 30 now after all, so maybe I just don’t ‘get’ the youth of today anymore!!
So, this is my one man campaign to PLEASE vote them out the competition next week – presuming it’s possible of course. Feel free to join my campaign by posting below! If you need a little inspiration, here’s a video for you;
