This question has been bugging me for some time now – and I’m sure your first response will be along the lines of;
You need to get out more
Closely followed by the realization that I have a very valid point. Alright, maybe you’ll stick with your first response, but something tells me that I can’t be the only one to think this…..
Why is it that a police horse can ‘poo’ on the pavement and leave it there, when a dog owner faces a fine for doing the same?! Maybe I should rephrase that, I mean the dog poos, not the owner – but the owner faces a fine, not the dog!!
Obviously I’m fully supportive of the fact that dog owners should be cleaning up after their beloved pet. We have all managed to step in dog mess before, and know how frustrating it is! But, I’d prefer to step in dog excretement than a mountain of, well, horse shit for want of a better expression.
Only this evening, on a short walk to McDonalds – due to my lack of desire to cook – as I approached a pedestrain crossing in the centre of town after the sun had set, I almost put my foot in a huge pile of the stuff. I was so close due to the darkness coupled with my concentration on the crossing I was approaching.
But, I was the lucky one. As I looked down there was a human foot print right in the middle. Yes, somebody had put their foot into a big pile of horse shit. About a size 9 by the look of it, if you’re interested.
It’s almost impossible to see until you’re in it, so I can only guess how many others are going to fall into the trap before morning.
But, we surely cannot expect our police officers to carry around an industrial sized ‘pooper-scooper’ can we? I guess not – although the thought is a funny one! The only solution I can think of is a rule that forces said police officer on the guilty horse to contact a clean-up team (AKA the council) to sort out the mess instantly. Council workers should be on ‘horse shit call’ at all times…….maybe.
Of course, we cannot blame the horses. When you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go – and training a horse to pop into the local public toilets to take a dump is unrealistic at best. This leads me to question the necessity of police on horseback. Do we really need that? Our police officers too lazy to walk now?
Either way, and whatever the solution, it needs to be addressed as next time it may be my size 9 print in the centre of the pile!
P.S. If there were not other people around I would have taken a photo as proof – but thought I may get a few strange looks if seen taking pictures of horse poo. I’m sure you understand….

I had a similar problem yesterday, when i asked the officer if he was going to clean it up he threatened me with section 5 public order.
seems we have one law for us and another for the police.
Who makes the laws?
What ablout the cyclist or the pedestrian?
